After keeping us waiting for a century, Mark Twain will finally reveal all - News, Books - The Independent

Mark Twain said that human beings have no purpose or benefit for our planet. After thinking about that statement, I completely agree. All we do is ruin this planet; to make sure our species stays in existence. If Humans were never created, Earth would have more than likely kept flourishing as a beautiful planet.

konitz, when those papers are released please update this thread if you can, sounds like pretty interesting stuff!

and while i agree with your point of humans seemingly doing the best we can to destroy the earth, i have to point out the earth has a meeting with the sun in about 4 billion years. when our sun starts to die it will grow and get hotter before dieing out. when that happens all life on earth will be destroyed. earth will turn into a mars landscape.

but yes i agree, that event wont be for some 4 billion years and in the mean time earth seemingly would be much better off without this virus it has on it called humans.

I completely agree. Hence my opposition to the space program's ultimate goal of settling on other planets. We will just ravage them as well.

We are conquerors. We come, we see, we conquer, we rape, we destroy, we move on. HAs been that way for all of history

it's the selfish nature of humans to only worry about themselves and nothing else.

It's called survival and every living thing has it as it's first priority.

To me this is like the old "if a tree falls and no one is there to hear it" cliche.

What is the point of saving the planet if there are no people left to enjoy it?

Every piece of art ever created is slowly disintegrating from pollution, decay or just the natural decomposition of the compounds used. Should we lock them away so UV light and weathering have no impact on them, or should we try to preserve them so that future generations can enjoy them as well?

Likewise, what's the point of wetlands and parks you can't camp or hunt in, lakes you can't swim or fish in, mountains you can never climb, etc.....

I am talking; cutting down rain forests for lumber; leveling mountains for resources; and filling swamplands for housing. The things you described are no different than any other species impact on the world.

Also, the point I am making is that the world would probably have been better without the creation of humans.

And my ultimate point, in it's simplest form, is this planet would be worthless without humans to enjoy it's beauty.

                        From who's perspective? LoL... Humans?

The earth would hardly be worthless if humans didn't exist. It wouldnt be worthless to all the other life that lives here..

Humans were meant to be caretakers of this planet, it's stewards.

We fucked that up, but that doesn't mean the world would be perfect without us.

It would be perfect in the life cycle/ food chain/ Darwinism point of view.
