I don't get racial pride. You can have pride in what you have accomplished or created, either individually or as a group. I don't see the logic in being proud of something that is happenstance. It's makes about as much sense as being proud of being a human versus a goat.

I also don't understand wearing pants halfway down your ass, getting "crunk", or ebonics. Ask black people because they created all of it.Originally posted by Scrumhalf View PostI don't get racial pride. You misunderstand me. I have no issues with family heritage, etc. In fact that's what I said - be proud of human accomplishments, either your own or some kind of collective that you are part of and contributing to - family, country, school, community, etc. But I'm distinguishing family heritage from race.Originally posted by jack tors View Posttheres nothing wrong with being proud of your family heritiage... what they accomplished the traditions and culture... surprised that you say that of all ppl
I am neither proud nor ashamed of being a brown-skinned South Asian. It just happens to be what I am and it has nothing to do with any accomplishment that either I did or a group that I am part of did (countrymen, family, etc.). Note that I am not taking issue with just white pride - I don't get racial pride of any color.
It is pure chance that the intangible entity that is you and represents your identity (your mind, your life force, whatever you want to call it) happens to be born in a white body (or brown or black or whatever) in the USA, as opposed to a bushman in the Kalahari or an Inuit in Greenland. You did nothing to influence it or deserve it - it just happened. The only thing that matters is what you do with yourself.
To me, race is so irrelevant that is unfathomable we are still talking about it in the 21st century. It is truly a human failing that I cannot wrap my mind around. I am the ultimate meritocrat - the only thing that matters to me is what an individual has accomplished or stands for.
