  • High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) vs "normal cardio"

    Has anyone tried doing HIIT? I've always done the "normal cardio" where my heart rate stayed around 70% of max and you go for 45 to 60 min, but I've been reading a lot about HIIT and numerous articles state that it burns more total calories and at the end of the day, more body fat and you retain more of your hard earned muscle. Just curious if anyone out there has tried it and there results. Much appreciated.

    I use to do it a lot a couple years back. Over about the last 6 months I have just simply ran with only a little focus on lifting. The regular running has burned a lot more fat. I would be curios to see if HIIT is good for burning fat while minimally burning muscle though.

        Mt understanding is as follows;

        Fat burning range say little over 120bpm to 135bpm - this is optimum if you just want to burn fat as your goal.

        Cardio - over 135bpm is going to work the heart more and burn more calories in total from whats inside the stomach and what you have in the blood and then from fat breakdown

        HIT Interval- more extreeme cardio and probably the quickest way to better cardio fitness - again this is cardio so its going to pullthe calories from anywhere and most likely the stomach contents and blood sugar first

            I'm going to give the HIIT a shot and see what happens. I appreciate the input from Rocket, Mr I and Shibby.

            Jack: one thing about "shit," it always seems to come back around :agreed:
