  • Had to get a new wireless router, this one any good?

So my old wireless router is like 6 years old wireless G router. Always got a strong signal on it, problem is that I will just suddenly lose internet access even with a full signal.

Anyway, bought a new wireless N router.

People that know routers, is this one any good for standard internet use, maybe some streaming of HD content.

That one should be just fine. Go check out newegg.com to see if you can find it cheaper or even something close to it for cheaper.

from what i understand the simultaneousness dual band is the important thing.

the wireless N stuff like my computers can run on the 5ghz band, and shit like my and sana's iphone that cannot run on the 5ghz band can run on the 2.4ghz band.

no i couldnt because it doesnt have simultaneousness band. the iphones will not work on the 5ghz band.

only the computer will work on the 5ghz band. the importance of the 5ghz band is much less interference from shit like phones, microwaves, baby monitors etc.. all operating on the 2.4ghz band.

I have actually looked at that router when i first got my PS3, because i kept getting kicked off the internet whenever i was on with my ps3. That one is very good, but for basic home needs, its overkill. I am sure you could have found a scaled down version for cheaper and does very similar work, without the added content that you won't use.

Good choice, Bouncer....it's always better to pay a bit more for quality.

Great choice. When you get into hardware like that you have to start digging to find the differences that truly make one better than the other. For your uses or most any of ours that router is more than enough, imo.

really the reason i wanted a good one and not a cheap one is because of the area i live. i can literally see 50-60 separate wifi networks when i click on the little wifi icon. there is so much interference etc.. around here, i just feel like a cheap one might not do the job.

Very good reason. Issues from interference are taken for granted and over looked too often and it will only get worse.

Then it must've been your shitty PS3. :D

On a serious note though. I got a dual band modem/ router (netgear) and I just found out that I need an external adapter to be able to use the second band.
I don't know why I was told by the guy at the fry's. (but then again half of those shumucks don't know shit the begin with.)
