  • Cash, Power, Prestige

So I was just having a discussion with a friend who is also heading to law school next year. We got into a discussion of what is our biggest motivator between cash, power, and prestige? I know other things matter. Such as for me, law is an intellectual debate that has no "wrong" answer in most cases and I love the gray area. But cash, power, and prestige still matter.

So of the three, which is the most important to you and why?

    Money

    Power
    25.00%

    Prestige

You can't have power if you are broke and nobody gives a fuck about prestige.

could you say that with money come power and prestige? (of course you'd have to use that money the right way, invest it in the right things and make the right choices) but as the biggest motivator money would play a larger role in motivation because of the amount of security you can get from it.

Your logic is off somewhat. Anyone who has competed in a bodybuilding show cares about prestige.

But to get to the point, you can have power while not having crazy money. Take lawyers. You can come out of law school working for a large firm pocketing $150,000 to 170,000 your first year. But you ahve no power.

On the contrary, if you come out and work as an ADA, you have some power (not as much as the district attorney) but you are making maybe $50,000.

So two different paths, same degree.

Obscene amounts of money does bring about power and prestige in some cases. But it can also lower your prestige and power. You may have to step on people to get to where you are going, thus leaving your prestige low. This can lead to little power other than within the small circle that allows you to make your money.

Again let's look at the law. Say you have some scamming attorney who is getting rich by faking accidents, and then collecting the settlements. He is too smooth to get caught, but everyone knows. He will have power, but no prestige or power

Prestige is meaningless in comparison to cash and power.

Have your prestige and I will take cash and power.

Haha. Prestige is not close to number one on my list. Just stating that most of us do care about prestige. As much as I can say I do not, part of me still does otherwise I would never have competed in what basically amounts to a male beauty pagent. Not a bad thing, I believe it shows we care about our bodies.

So B, between cash and power, which is te bigger motivator?

Money all the way. I don't give a fuck about the prestige or the power. It's all about me and my family. As long as we live comfortable without any bills, rent or mortgage to worry about I'm good.

I want the power so i can demand the money. Also, with great power comes great prestige.

Power can also enforce fear. I want to be feared because that lasts longer than any other emotion. Also with fear people will give money so they can be relaxed that you won't hurt them

Not always. I know plenty of rich people with a family that doesn't give a fuck about their status or got no respect from their kids.

We're talking about you not other people. Also what does having a Merc SUV say about the value of prestige to you?
