  • Computer People: Router Question

I switched from Cable Internet to DSL a few months ago. It works great when I hook directly to it, but when I try to use the Linksys router it is spotty. It will usually only work for one laptop in my house at a time, and the other laptop says IP Address conflict and has no internet access. Is there a difference in the way DSL is set up that only one person can connect to the network at a time?

    not that i know of.

maybe you just need a new router?

i just got one because of all kinds of issues with disconnects. no problem at all now.

my router was like 6 years old.

I was thinking that, but this router in only 3 years old, worked flawlessly with great range when I had a cable modem, and is still fast when one of us are able to connect. I don't think the DSL and this router are getting along for some reason. I guess worst case scenario I will sell the linksys on ebay and go another direction. I just didn't want to do that and realize DSL won't work with a new router.

I'm not familiar with dsl, but it could be that your router is taking a shit. Don't bother selling it on ebay you won't get much.

Well I'm not sure. It worked fuckin flawlessly until the week after I switched to DSL. AT&T said that most routers besides theirs don't work well with their DSL modems. (Of course they have an AT&T router that they are trying to sell me, so of course they would say that.) But I might have to end up going with that option.

I'm going to try a few more things and then put in on Craigslist, Ebay, etc. Even if it only brings $20 thats fine with me.
