We need to take decisive steps to disengage from the Middle East. Instead, we are in bed wtih the thugs and strong men there, the guys who are universally hated by all the people? If you think the people don't want self-determination, think again. But these so-called leaders have the people under their heel. You are seeing signs of change though. Tunisia, Lebanon, Gaza, now Egypt.

America needs to make up its mind. If we continue to take the side of the dictators for the sake of realpolitik or the stable status-quo, we are going to be hated by all the people. That's already happening. WE ARE NOT HATED BECAUSE OF OUR WAY OF LIFE!!!!! We can't have it both ways - keep talking about self-determination and democracy and then pout and take our ball and go home when someone we don't like gets the popular mandate.

I would like to see the President take decisive steps to get us out of the Middle East once and for all. Let's face it, the only realpolitik reason we are there is for oil. THIS IS OUR SPUTNIK MOMENT. We need to invest in getting us energy self-sufficient. To me, there is no greater national priority. And not just through more drilling as the Republicans would have us do, so that we can continue to line the pockets of the Halliburtons of the world.
