  • Brutal hockey hit this week may lead to criminal charges

YouTube - Coup de Zdeno Chara sur Max Pacioretty ( 8 mars 2011 )

The close up is at the 55 second mark on. Guy ended up with broken vertebrae and a concussion. League officials took no further discipline action other than the penalty called in the game due to the play being relatively clean. The area of the hit is what caused the problem

    Dead link.

I saw the hit during the game. I don't think it was any different than most hits. It was late but not anymore brutal than most checks.

Link fixed. The hit was brutal because of its location. Getting drilled into the post like that must be like hitting a cement wall

Criminal charges aren't warranted. It's part of the game. Bad timing, bad hit, bad results.

                Glad someone gets it.

The next time Montreal plays Boston, I'm all for someone tripping Chara when they're racing out an icing...about ten feet from the boards. Let him go in hard and break his fucking legs.

If the league refuses to protect it's players by suspending for cheap shots, they should expect cheap shots to be given out vigilante-style in return. The NHL brass is a fucking joke, and the whole lot of them (Bettman, Campbell, Murphy, Daly) need to be shown the door.

yep. They need to send a message to that scumbag. Montreal has a classy organization. I hope they go deep in the playoffs. I think Cammalleri should have been named captain.

I have a ton of respect for the fans in Buffalo and Long Island, who made their feelings known by booing Chara every time he touched the puck. I'm glad that the majority of fans around the league's cities 'get it', and that it's mostly the deluded homers in Boston who are denying Chara did anything wrong. I hope this is a tipping point, and that the league can no longer get away with buffoonery when it comes to supplemental discipline.
