  • Cutting friends off

Has any member ever had to do this? It seems like recently that it has become necessary for several of my friends around.

One has relapsed hardcore into drugs. This causes him to be angry and obstinate to anyone who speaks to him.

Another who I consider one of my best friends is heading that way due to her drinking. I'm all for having a good time, but five or six days per week, waking up on your bathroom floor, tanking school classes is just not something I am willing to do with.

I understand everyone has a prerogative to do what they want, but at what point does that poison seep into your life to the point where it is quitting time. Which giving up for me is counterintuitive, but necessary

yes, i've had to do that. It doesn't feel good, but if you want to not be affected than you gotta do it. A bunch of my friends that graduated with me in high school became drop out college students because the drugs got out of hand. Its not fair to you or them.

I am also very happy to have made new friends in college that have a very similar mind set and goals in life.

Many times I have had to do this. Not for reasons your friends need to be, but i've needed to cut them out of my life. I only have a handful of true friends that I can keep around no matter what. Plenty have come and gone throughout the years. Alot of it has to do with lifestyle, or even just the way they act in situations.

i have cut off a handful of people for several reasons (goals not being similar and the fact that they're just annoying). i usually make the call by seeing if i benefit their life and if they benefit mine. it doesn't have to be money, connections or anything to help me advance but just benefits that are along the lines of stress relief and a sort of "support group".

I have distanced myself from some friends because of different goals, but not full abrogation. If the benefits are minimal, I slowly remove myself from the relationship, but keep in sporadic contact

I'm hoping law school will be the same way. I have one friend who I have been friends with since preschool, another who I met in college who has similar goals as I do, and the two knuckleheads above. Those 4 are who I consider true friends. Tough to let them go

I just usually cut total contact. Makes things easier at times.

My true friends(like bouncer)are people who I can count on and know they have their shit together:) I would go to bat for them anyday(even bouncer)and would do anything for them within my reach(stfu bouncer:D)
              You don't have any friends.

I wouldn't cut anyone off. If anyone deserves a hand to help them up, do so. Otherwise, just use your move to law school as a way to disconnect. Less drama that way.
