  • Huge news for ATT and T Mobile customers

AT&T agrees to buy T-Mobile from Deutsche Telekom for $39 billion -- Engadget

I'm having a hard time believing this will get regulatory approval. There isn't enough competition as it is. This will make the national mobile landscape essentially a duopoly with Sprint a distant 3rd. Not good for the consumer IMO....

Sprint is bigger than people think. Think of the amount of people on Boost and Nextel on top of Sprint. They are in 3rd as it is.

It will be approved no doubt. This will drop what ATT would take 5 years to finish to just a short few months with LTE. Deutsche Telekom is losing money with TMobile US currently so they want to unload it. Sprint originally showed interest in buying them, but did not have the money to purchase them. The ball is in Verizon's court right now to try and purchase Sprint, which I feel won't happen. Then you will have 3 companies, all having an LTE network.

Now the question is who is going to drop prices first, Verizon or ATT?

On a side note, years ago when Sprint purchased Nextel, Verizon was the first company to show interest in purchasing them. At that time they figured why bother. Now look at what Sprint turned them into. There may be something in the works behind the scene where Verizon is showing interest in Sprint and thus why Sprint isn't going after TMobile any longer. Just my 2 cents.
