Is your daughter still taking viola lessons? How about your son?

No, she decided after that year of it that it wasn't really for her. She has been in chorus the last couple of years - not sure if she'll stick with that next year. She will be starting high school this fall, so her course load definitely got tougher. She's still in all AP classes, so if she didn't feel like finding time for viola, I'm okay with that!
My son has not started any instruments. He's almost 7, and I don't think he'd have the attention span for it yet. Maybe it's just his personality.
How old are your boys now? Seems time has flown the last 3-4 years! Your family is musical, so I'm sure they're advancing wonderfully!

Your daughter is already getting ready for high school? Wow, how time flies!
My older son is 11. He still takes piano lessons but his true love is composing music. Last year he composed a piece in 3 movements for a 5 instrument chamber ensemble that won 3rd prize in a national competiton for his age group.
My younger son is 6, 1 year younger than your son. He is taking violin and piano lessons but definitely prefers violin.Last edited by Scrumhalf; 03-23-11, 11:56 PM.

Not saying that is what you are doing, its just that at 11 my true love was playing out side, sega genesis, and fruit rollups!
No, that's what he wants to do. We hooked him up with a really good composition teacher here, and when the two of them talk during his lesson, they might as well be discussing string theory. I can't make head or tail of what they are saying..
I have no interest in composing (although I can appreciate the skill it takes to put create music).
It's a good hobby for him. He wants to be a mathematician and they say music and math often go together, so we'll see what happens when he grows up.. :)
