Nicknamed the "Black Panther", Nubret was born in 1938 in Anse-Bertrand. In the '50s, he moved with his parents in Paris.
But in Guadeloupe in 1958, he discovered bodybuilding. Three months after joining a gym, he is crowned Mr. Guadeloupe.
In 1960, Nubret part in world championships in the IFBB. He was voted "most muscular man in the world."
From 1970 to 1975 he served as vice president of the IFBB Europe. Then he founded in 1976 WABBA.
The guy turns: in 1976 Mr. Universe, Mr. World in 1977. He also ranks in 2nd place behind the Olympia Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1975.
He earned his last championship of the world WABBA in 1984. And at age 65, he will demonstrate at Gravelines, at the world championships.
"The Black Panther" was also a man of cinema. Nubret turned in 25 films: The Titans Duccio Tessari (1961), A Condé Yves Boisset (1970) or The Business of Georges Lautner (1981) with Jean-Paul Belmondo.
In the 1980s, he starred in television series including breakfast, with Pierre Mondy and Marie-Christine Barrault, in which he plays a bodybuilder.
And in 1977 he made a brief appearance alongside Lou Ferrigno and Arnold Schwarzenegger in the documentary Pumping Iron (1977) by George Butler.
Nubret was also an author. In 2006, aged 68, he released "I am ... Me and God ", written in collaboration with Louis-Xavier Babin-Lachaud.
"In this book, he revisits his life, his past experiences, its meetings, its joys and sorrows."
On March 19, 2009, Nubret was found by firefighters in a coma at his home. He was transferred to the intensive care unit of the Hôpital Lariboisière.
Since, Nubret was followed by different doctors. He died yesterday at the age of 73 years, the "Poplar", a retirement home in Seine-Saint-Denis.
