can a girl have guy friends? vice versa?

I was on the phone earlier talking to a friend (guy) about his previous relationships. he goes on to say that no girl can have guy friends without them being gay because men will always want the girl and the girl will always want the guy. and that's why he broke up with his ex.

now this just irks me. 80% of my good friends are male. a few are gay but the majority of them are straight. one of them confessed that if i was single when he and i met, he would have made a move but we moved passed that and are really good friends now. all of the others are in relationships or engaged. the ones that are single are the ones i go out with occasionally but we know our boundaries.

my question is, do you guys really believe that is the case? do you not have a female friend who is just a friend?

i would say it depends on the person, personality, and the situation really.

i know some cool girls that are really nice etc.. but they look like bulldogs, have no interest in them what so ever.

but generally young attractive people of the opposite sex usually cant be just friends.

i could never be friends with that Brazilian chick from Modern Family, i would always be thinking "i wanna stick my pipe in her poop hole". :D

i have female best friends and it causes alot of issues in relationships my girl and i have been together almost 5 years and still the fact that I have/see other girls always comes up as an issue. and i know that if it was the other way round id flip it so id say if your single sure if your in a relationship itll be tough.
