I already know I'll be using polk in wall and ceiling speakers; inexpensive and sound great.

The vibration caused by in wall sub freqs would be a concern. I overlooked the obvious.

Bouncer while I agree with most of the things you said I don't agree with your subwoofer in the wall theory. In fact you'll probably have the deepest bass you can imagine. To produce bass speaker needs to move air and the more air it moves deeper the bass is so basically bigger the box of the speaker better the bass is now if you put that speaker in your wall it's going to use all the space in the wall for its advantage.

If a wall is filled with insulation then the volume of air would be reduced.

I'm sure they can remove part of the insulation. Also only time you'll find insulation between the walls are outside facing walls and the batroom walls (if they are connected to any interior walls to prevent moisture leak. You won't find insulation in the walls between rooms I have ran many many wires to hang tvs on the walls. In fact I put one up today and there was no insulation. :)

the only reason anyone would even consider hiding away the sub in a wall is for visual reasons. usually the bitchy wife that wont let the husband have any sort of speaker or box in the area. check out any audiophile/home theater forum etc.. optimal home theater sub placement is certainly not bolted into a wall.

just realize that you will pay twice as much for an in wall sub and not have the same result. you will not have clear smooth base like you would a free standing open room setup.

Blm while bouncer is wrong but he is right also. You will have clear bass but it takes a lot of work to measure the room to get the perfect bass balance. What I mean is in a romm you will have certain spots with huge bass and some spots with hardly any low frequency. So...if you get that sub placement wrong you may and up with some seats in the house with hardly any bass and some with crazy amounts of bass. And if you have box you can move it around the room to get the best sound possible.

Beast, oddly, you make valid points in terms of placement for sound balance. I'm already convinced I don't want an in wall sub based on cost, placement, and freq distribution.

yea he is absolutely correct about sub placement and finding the sweet spot.

putting a sub inside a wall though, not so much. lol
