  • The Mecca as it has been known will soon be dead.

Golds Venice, The Firehouse, and MaxMuscle are reportedly being pushed out. Google has bought the property and has notified these businesses that it will not renew there lease in 2 years.

"Google at Home in Venice Los Angeles

January 27, 2011 By Jane Peters

Los Angeles is an extremely desirable place to live. Just look at the weather going on around the country right now. Google also loves Los Angeles and just leased 100,000 sq. ft. of space in buildings in Venice, CA. One of them is the Frank Gehry Binoculars Building, previously leased by the advertising giant Chiat/Day.

This lease is part of a major expansion by Google in Southern California and great news for the Los Angeles real estate market and the employment sector, as the company is plannng to hire around 6,000 new employees this year. Google is fighting for top talent with rivals such as Facebook, Twitter and the like.

Why is Google expanding in the Venice Los Angeles area?

Venice Los Angeles properties are extremely close to the beaches with 300 days of sun to take advantage of them. Being close to the entertainment industry and access to the technical know-how of graduates from local universities doesn’t hurt either."

lets be honest though, "the mecca" sort of fell a long time ago. none of the top guys are really training there anymore. golds went after the general public to get away from the bodybuilding image. i imagine other then the 1960-1970's when golds was at its original location that the new golds hit its peak in the mid 90's. i can only imagine walking into golds venice in like 1995, Flex, Levrone, Dillet, Cormier, Priest, etc..

                I got nothing. :D
Like you said Venice golds became just another golds gym but nonetheless it's sad to see a historical place come to an end.
But then again that place has a meaning for the people like us. For an average joe it doesn't mean shit.

Well I guess I'm gonna have to go to one of the other hundred restaurants in Venice to get a chicken breast. :D
