  • TV stereo guy?

So I was getting Direct TV installed today and the tec was saying how he liked my stuff but if I ever heard of a 1080P upscaling tuner. Do any of you guys have that?
Basicaly I will research the shit outta it cuz tech stuff is a mistery to me but before I waste my time want to hear what you guys have to say.

If your tv is 1080P any signal it gets will be upscaled to the tv's native 1080p res.

It means nothing though because you can't add information that isn't there. In other words, if you are receiving a standard 480p standard def signal, your tv will upscale it so that it is viewable on your 1080P, BUT that dosent mean your tv is turning standard def into HD and magically adding hd information to the standard def signal. It is simply converting the signal to work.

To put it simply, you would have no need for it.

Bouncer is correct. It's an old technology. It's like the DVD players before the bluray came out. They are called up converters, if you watch a standard definition show on your tv you'll notice that images are stretched out and fat because there isn't enough information in the signal to fill the screen but if you have an up converter it'll show the picture properly on the screen but it will not be an HD image. It'll just be less annoying to watch that's all.

You were correct until you started talking about a stretched image. Has nothing to do with stretching an image. That is aspect ratio that you are talking about.

You are right again it's been a while since I had that DVD player and come to think of it I did fuck around with the aspec ratio. I remember changing it from 4:3 to 16:9. Never mind about my last sentence rocket.

LOL, ya good point but I even know less. When he told me about it I was thinking it worked like Bouncer said "some how it could magicaily convert my signal to 1080p"

HD channels broadcast in 1080i or 720p for the most part. If your tv is 1080p like any new HDTV is today, the tv will automatically upscale the signal to match the res of your tv. That guy is about 6 years behind talking about the old DVD players that upscaled to a higher res. lol

also quick question my Big kid has HDMI cable box and TV but I gave her my old Denon that has no HDMI. is it make any difference if I run the HDMI or the fiber optic and 3 RCAs

I would like to run it with out HDMI so it can all be controlled threw the tuner but if it makes a big deal i will add HDMI
