  • Jim Al-Khalili - Check him out if you like science

Has a bunch of BBC specials. I saw one on the elements the other day, the way he tells the story and teaches makes it easy to understand for everyone. He captures that love and wonder of science and space just like Brian Cox and Carl Sagan.

    Check out his specials:

Shock and Awe The story of electricity

    Atom

    Everything and nothing

            crazy shit.

there are more atoms in a single cup of water then there is water in all the world.

Haven't watched it.... Will make sure I do.

Didn't understand your last statement. More atoms of water in 1 cup than what?

                wow scrum.

Not atoms of water you Fucken simpleton.

Atoms IN a cup of water. There are more atoms in a cup of water then there is water in all the world.

In other words, all the gallons of water in the world still does not = the amount of atoms in 1 cup of water.

Don't use that tone with me! I'm not Rado. :fight:

You didn't say GALLONS of water. You just said that there are more atoms (it's molecules, by the way) of water in 1 cup than there is water on earth. Gallons of water? You never specified units. Cubic miles of water? Cubic light years?

False, not molecules, atoms. We are talking about single atoms here, not groups of atoms.

And it doesn't matter which measurement you choose to count all the water in the world. Count it by teaspoons if you like. There are still more atoms in that single glass of water.

                        another fun fact.

splitting a single atom releases enough energy to move a single grain of sand.

doesn't sound like much right? considering the fact that there are 78,000 000,000,000,000,000 atoms in a single grain of sand and we are talking about massive energy!!

its a bit like a single human being able to move an object the size of the earth.

per cubic meter, a human being makes more heat then the sun.

                          fact

I agree with scrum, the first statement is dumb without including a unit of measurement for the water.
