  • bad day at the gym

my training partner is 250lbs and probably strongest guy I know. benches 500 easily. i meet him he was doing military pressing with 405 without a spot.

today i showed up late to train with him back day. i was doing bent rows and i heard a pop like a shotgun blast from across the gym and I see him rolling around on the floor screaming.
he snapped the ball off his femur while deadlifting 650 and because he muscles were so strong he broke his hip/pelvis too. i helped carry him out on a stretcher.

they gave him morphine and it didnt do much for the pain. the doctors said they never heard or seen that before someone breaking their hip from weightlifting. they didnt really know what to do at all. they just flew him to a trauma center to do surgery. they said 3-5 months before he can even stand again. when we left the gym i was hoping he would be able to train again but now im worried if he will walk again.

im never doing deads again and im really shook up over it.

Scary shit man. Hopefully he will heal ok.

Thats some heavy weight ...man I see these young studs pushing heavy stuff in the gym and I'm not even trying to stay or even come close to um at my age. I work in my limits for my old ass. Screw that real heavy stuff.

Lifting weight like that does nothing for you except fuck you up. It doesn't grow muscle and it don't make you look like a bodybuilder. Heavy core movements grow your core... The very opposite of what you want. Train the muscles, not the ligaments, tendons, and joints.

He will never again be the same from an injury like that.

        Sorry to hear it bro.

By the way jack, you don't have to stop doing certain movements, just stop using weight that is damaging your body. Use a weight that will train the muscle without depending heavily on tendons etc..

You're not old. Why, I remember when you were in junior high, going to your first dance. I was so proud...
