  • A debate between me and Beast over the English language - Need help

Basically I was making fun of beast for being stupid and he says to me, "you are making fun of me but you are the one laughing at stupid shit. What an irony."

That last part is what the argument is about. I am trying to tell him that you don't need to put "an" before the word irony in that sentence and that it should just be.. "What irony".

Which one is correct? "What an irony." or "What Irony."

Even when you read it it makes no sense. What irony?

Beast actually thinks that when you make a statement saying "what irony!" that it means you are asking a question about irony. :lmao:

I have never heard "an irony", but I don't know 100% that it CAN'T be said.

What irony would be a question not a statement.

Both are acceptable usage, although in this context, as an exclamation, "what irony!" or "how ironic!" are better. "Waht an orony" is better IMO as part of a longer sentence that is non-exclamatory.

No, the real irony is that the two non-native English speakers actually have better English skills.

what an irony sounds like one of those spammers that comes here and something just sounds a bit off. "many thanks to good friends of board superior, could you offer me many helps in regard of the bodybuild?"

                              to me its like saying

"i like the bodybuilding" vs "i like bodybuilding".

technically the first sentence is not wrong but it just sounds foreign and goofy.

i think the issue here is how you fucken terrorist from india and turkistan learn our language!
