Badass.... I just watched a show on them not too long ago. They can deploy out of a C130. Boat goes first then they jump out right after.

Imagine knowing they are patrolling that river....ya set up and ambush with claymores in the trees on both sides for 40 yds pointing on a downward angle across the river.Run a trip wire at the surface staked in for no forgiveness.. total destruction of the entire team in one blast. too easy.

Same concept we used to train for in Germany in the villages if the russians came across. Part of our SOP was to rig claymores on light poles and tree limbs in the small narrow streets. Run light trip wire across at antenna hight. Blast takes out the guys in the turret leaves the tank with out a crew, blocks up the road so the rest of the colum is a sitting target for LATW:thumup:

I'm sure it's just a recruiting video... SEAL/SWCC know how to avoid ambushes, you think?

Better check with Bouncer, he operates behind enemy lines every day and is an expert at this kind of stuff.

How do you avoid a thread thin wire strung across the river you cant hardly see even if you know its there when your running 40 miles an hour on the boat or in the dark when just crusing along... they are bad ass troopers no doubt and I have the utmost respect for all troops...but they arent super heros. Scrum you have seen too much hollywood brother....

I'll admit I don't know shit about this stuff. All I know is that SEAL/SWCC are supposed to be really good. Not disagreeing with you on the ambush stuff, what you are saying makes sense as far as the video is concerned. My only point is that maybe in real life they don't actually go storming down the river like that without ensuring they aren't going to get ambushed.

I have read a lot of books, I'm a heavily decorated chairborne ranger..

I hear ya bud...think about it for a min.

You have to run a river for an extraction on one of these boats to pick up a team. Are you gonna get where your going at 2 miles an hour trying to be stealthy??? No... why?

#1 your in enemy territory too long and moving too slow that equals and easy target.

#2 "speed in security" when you have to move long distances. you have a time line to meet. You go. At "danger areas" you slow down set security..then cross and continue to move. You cant low crawl everywhere and tiptoe and feel for trip wires when you have a 20 mile movement... That goes for on land or on the water..

#3 "timeline" you dont have all week to do a 20 mile movement for an overnight mission...

#4 How do you clear the river or on land the route and not give your positions away? This is why more guys are killed/mamed by IEDs then anything...

No Im saying if you use your head you can set up very simple ambushes and change the course of a battle. An Ambush is a very effective tool if used in the right location. There are not any forces in the world that I know of that are ambush proof.
