Honestly, he wasn't the best politician but he was exactly the man to have at the helm in the middle of a world war, couldn't think of anyone better.Originally posted by THE BOUNCER View Posthe was a great man and great leader, you will get no argument from me on him!
When you hear him back he extolls what Britishness should be; backbone, never say die tenacity, virtue, standards, reason. Thatcher did a bit too but no one else has it, I'm afraid we may have lost it.
Think of being the PM in those times against an unyielding madman like Hitler with a lethal highly charged and technically able force behind him, no wonder the guy drank whisky!

No where near as good bro, churchill had front line experience and steel nerves and pretty much stood alone, Thatchers only real conflict was with the miners and then Falklands which although a few perished was pretty much a walk in.Originally posted by THE BOUNCER View Postheres an odd question.
would margert thatcher have been better or worse if she was prime minister then instead of Churchill.
She would have crumbled, I hear what Scrum is saying but if you've ever been really stressed in life just try and imagine what chruchill was going through, and he brought us through the dark with conviction, through all that. No way thatcher would have took that kind of strain for five minutes, Churchill didn't delegate the big decisions he ran the dam war cabinet!

Guy is just totally in control of people but not really in control of his thoughts, the pause at the start, the body language, the slow build up of speed and volume and aggression in his words, he just sweeps people with him.Originally posted by THE BOUNCER View PostMe and SM!

The romanticizing of one of the darkest periods of human civilization is comical and sad.

Because if it isn't, and a guy like that comes along in a depression as the world is in now in a generation that had long since forgot who hitler was, it would be easy to be persuaded and I'll say it, charmed and impassioned by a guy like that!

Yes, absolutely. That's why history is one of the most important subjects kids should learn in school. And when they are ready for it (like high school), the unvarnished truth should be taught. Otherwise the same mistakes will be made again and again. I am a big fan of field trips - I must admit I have considered myself very knowledgeable about world history, but standing there at Auschwitz was was an experience I can never forget, something no book or movie can convey.
