The entry level models are: T2i, T3i and T4i. I wouldn't look at the "non-i" versions - they are old models. T4i is the best model of the 3- the sensor is the same for all 3, but the T4i has a superior autofocus system that Canon puts into their pro-sumer line, so it is inherently better. Of course you pay 50% more for that, so not sure if that is worth it necessarily.

All of these are seriously powerful cameras with a significant learning curve. All DSLRs are like that. Plus, you'll have the urge to get better lenses after a while.. :D

Ahh didnt even notice that! :panic: There's another that's $749, that's probably the right one. I'm just looking for now, but will definitely look into that.

Yeah, I think that's a decent price, but it was lower than that a couple of weeks ago, around Thanksgiving. Check prices on canonpricewatch.com.

Amazon has that camera with the 18-55 lens for $599. Is that a normal comparable price?

FB, for these photos I used my Canon T3i. It is an intro level DSLR, nothing fancy but reasonably good. I purchased it with two lenses - the 18-55mm kit lens and a 70-300 zoom lens. Most of the other photos I have posted in this thread as well as other threads are using one of these two lenses. While these are decent, neither of these lenses is really high quality.

I have since purchased two other lenses - one is a 100-400 zoom which is what I used for these photos, and a 17-55mm f2.8 lens which is very highly regarded for its optical quality. I got both of them used, as they are pretty expensive new.

I think most bodies are pretty good for 99% of photos, but the lenses make a big difference.

Most DLSR cameras today are good enough to take these photos. Even the kit lenses are really good, but if you step it up to the next level and get good professional quality lenses, it makes a big difference.

Which camera did you end up going with? I can't remember.

beast, you just dont have goog luck with any sort of tech. not sure if its just your middle eastern routes growing up with nothing but cows or if you are just not bright enough to use them. from cars to video game consoles, to your internet, torrents, camera, and on and on.. just give it up gramps. :D

Yeah, the 4 photos were using 400, 800, 1250 and 1600 ISO. They were definitely more noisy than usual. Only reason the 1st photo was at 400 was because I used fill flash.

For these photos, I used a 100-400 zoom lens that I just got. All my earlier photos were taken with a 70-300 zoom lens or the 18-55 kit lens that I got when I bought the camera. That was a good lens, but the 100-400 is much better. I am going to try to sell the 70-300.
