  • Different way of thinking about employment.

"We must do away with the absolutely specious notion that everybody has to earn a living. It is a fact today that one in ten thousand of us can make a technological breakthrough capable of supporting all the rest. The youth of today are absolutely right in recognizing this nonsense of earning a living. We keep inventing jobs because of this false idea that everybody has to be employed at some kind of drudgery because, according to Malthusian-Darwinian theory, he must justify his right to exist. So we have inspectors of inspectors and people making instruments for inspectors to inspect inspectors. The true business of people should be to go back to school and think about whatever it was they were thinking about before somebody came along and told them they had to earn a living.". -Buckminster Fuller.

    Thoughts?

We cant continue to make jobs for everyone as the population grows and grows, its a system destined to fail.

Some thoughts there, its sad that we work for money, to buy things we don't need half the tone, because we're made to feel like we need them, we work ourselves into the ground, missing life, then when we get old we spend the money we earned trying to buy back the youth we lost and resolve the mental health issues caused by overworking in earlier life.

It does seem like a system destined for failure. If we want people to succeed in the education system, that needs an overhaul as well. It's antiquated. Being forced to take classes that have absolutely no relevancy to your desired path simply because credits cost money and the more credits you pay for the more you give to the institution. Our educational learning could be streamlined significantly.

Who ever wrote that article needs to stay outside homeless for a few days during the middle of the winter and see if he or she needs to get a job to have a roof over his or her head.
No job = homeless period. Don't care how much money is made by that one person he is not going to give it away. To see if I'm right or wrong why don't one you guys call bill gates and see if he'd like to pay your rent or mortgage for a few months.

Buckminster Fuller was a smart guy, but unfortunately for the him, human society doesn't work according to Malthusian-Darwinian principles, and nobody in their right mind can argue that it should.

I'm with Bouncer, we're just talking about the concept and what could/might work and what is futile about aspects of the current set up.

Don't let fear kill your hope and free thinking guys, no ones saying everyone should jack their jobs, its just hypothetical theory

read the managers of managers part. its about creating worthless jobs just to pay someone. as the population grows and grows the jobs just aren't there. the system as it stands now will not last and cannot last.

That concept would only work if you lived in a tribe deep in the amazon forest. Make a little hut, go out to hunt with your tribe man, share the food you catch and everybody is happy.

Not in a civilized world. That concept is just a hippie talk.

I think what yiou really mean is that we've gone too far down one fork in the road for a shift change to work now, I agree in our lifetime.

Your thoughts seem conditioned by what is though rather than what could be

Yeah they might have a few unnecessary jobs here and there but companies won't be giving jobs to people so they can have jobs. There are thousands of job cuts every day by the huge corps. So stay rested my friend not everyone will have a job.

Nothing like walking into a coffee shop and seeing 25 people working and only 3-4 actually working. Its a huge drain.
