Apple's and oranges, IMO. In engineering or medicine, your reputation is based mostly on your credentials and your academic qualifications and accomplishments. But in sales which is what I think Growth said he was in, perception is everything, or at least far more important. Not saying a salesman doesn't need to be sharp or anything but the job places a far greater premium on appearance and how you carry yourself. And right or wrong, IMO tattoos convey an aura of non-professionalism that I think will be a liability in certain fields.

Well then that is your opinion and of course you are entitled to one just as everyone else is. I still think you are being a bit narrow minded and that is MHO. I do agree that tattoo's, to some, might give off that feeling of unprofessionalism, but I believe that those people are also very conservative, narrow minded people with the idea of tattoos being a stigma instead of a form of art.Originally posted by Scrumhalf View PostApple's and oranges, IMO. There are exception though, of course, like gang tattoos or seriously sinister looking tattoos.
Now I am done with this debate because, Scrum, i know you were probably on the debate team in all of high school through college or some shit :thumup::weights:

I agree with that as well. When i got my neck blasted I was kind of upset thinking how am I supposed to get a job now, but then i remembered I am a barber! :weights:Originally posted by THE BOUNCER View Postnot saying you cant have a good job or it means your stupid. just saying it puts up potential roadblocks.
Actually going to start working at a loan office in the near future and if need be I will buy fake skin or cover up make up made specifically for these situations but i doubt it will come to that. The people at this office are very laid back. I am going to have to do something about my plugs though:mad:

Lets just say I win and call it a day :thumup:Originally posted by THE BOUNCER View Posti agree with your point colossus. people that judge based on looks alone are small minded.
BUT. that is the real world bro, potential employers WILL judge. you may be lucky to find someone who doesnt care about the tats but you might not.

Colossus, I'm not justifying it bro. I couldn't care less, I work in the hi-tech field where we have people, from a hundred countries working and the only things that count are your brains and your work ethic. But that's not the way it is everywhere as you surely know, least of all in sales.

Whether it's right or it's wrong, if you think people don't still judge tattoos, you are highly mistaken. Yes, they are "socially acceptable" now days, but that still means nothing. Sure, you might find companies that don't care, but to go in thinking tattoos are the complete norm now, is far off.

Agreed. Doesn't matter what decade it is, people still judge others by appearance. Period.Originally posted by FitnessBrat View PostWhether it's right or it's wrong, if you think people don't still judge tattoos, you are highly mistaken. my sisters had been director of HR for several major companies in Chicago area. About 15-20yrs ago she said never get a tattoo thats visisable or piercing nobody will hire you (real jobs - no offense). just a month ago she said everyone has tats these days... i still think if you keep it in moderation) and in socially exceptable areas if you have a white collar job. ppl are still going to judge you its just a reallity.

of course this comes up every 6 months on here but who has what? Are you getting anything else soon?
I've got the BigScott itch and have been looking at art very closely lately.
Time to go all the way down to my wrists, just need to decide on a theme. The upper half of my arm is biomechanic surrounding totem art.
The forearm will definitely be black and grey only no shadows...was thinking of something like this;

hercules' 7th task)
or

12 Greek gods on mt olympus

unfortunate but very true !! we are all judged on appearance long before the actual content behind that appearance ...Originally posted by THE BOUNCER View Posti agree with your point colossus. people that judge based on looks alone are small minded.
