  • kids ages for staying at home alone

KY law states a 10 year old can be left unattended for up to 2 hours and 12 year old fir up to 4 hours. last night I left MT.dew in the freezer my 10 year old found it this morning asked me if she should stick it in the microwave LOL ya I don't think 10 year olds should be left alone. :noo:

This is one "rule" that varies from child to child, IMO. I could leave my daughter home for a week at 12, and she would be fine. My son, hard to say (he's 8 now) because he's the baby and not nearly as independent. Does she know what to do if there's a fire? Or if someone comes to the door? Those types of questions are pretty important in determining if they are able to be left alone yet.

I was one of "those" kids that came home everyday alone (at 10) until my parents got off work.

Same here. After walking 1/2 mile from the only bus stop. Dad worked out of state and my mom worked 2 jobs. My sister and I would be home alone from early afternoon til late at night.

Blm was it uphill in the freezing snow? :D

My mom knew I would get in trouble, always had my grand father pick me up if she had to work.

Not uphill but in the winter it was in the freezing snow sometimes. Smart ass.

We got in a lot of trouble but relatives and/or sitters were not always an option.

Shit changed when I was 11 and burned a couple miles of railroad banking. Lol.

Lol yea I didn't start getting left alone till I was around 15. Even then I was up to no good as soon as they pulled out of driveway. Lol

i think you can trust girls more than boys, I would happily leave my daughter on her on for a few hours at the age of 12, but my boys nah!

TBH now that my eldest daughter is nearly 16 I trust her more to run the house than my wife.

unexceptable, how can you life with yourself if the house catches on fire or one of them drowns in the bath tub. lets face it kids do stupid shit.

depends on the kid but 15+ and not all night.

Yep, that's the bottom line. And accidents happen.

When I set the embankment on fire I was playing with my dads small propane torch burning holes in dead logs. We pissed on them thinking they were out but apparently in smoldered and reignited through the night. Couple of miles of railroad embankment torched! It finally stopped when it reached a crossing. Neighborhood kids ratted me out but I didn't get in trouble (apart from the belt lashing from my ol man). They actually do a controlled burn every year....so I helped them, lmao.
