  • Ashes and Snow

Currently watching this film. I cannot find the words to express how it makes me feel. Great Imagery. I consider myself to be an artist. Not claiming to be Van Gough but I can hold my own in a college drawing class. This film draws out my creative side. Be warned. Not much is said. Just lots of great film shots.

Ashes And Snow (2005) - Stagevu: Your View

Ashes and Snow is a poem of spectacular images. It's a tale, a legend. It's a movie about the human beings and their being, about the returning to Eden, about the beauty of remembrance. The pictures tell a story about being free. The text behind - tells a poetry.

It's a slow moving film shoot with hi-speed camera. Wide lenses. Ahromatic. With imposing composition. Perfectly choreographed. Lots of underwater shooting. There is a dictors voice, a Laurence Fishburne's voice, who have done it well. We can say - it's near to movies like Baraka, Chronos, Koyannisqatsi, Powaqatsi, Genesis...

    Enjoy!

Hey Colossus, have you seen any of Tarsem Singh's movies? What do you think about them? I saw only one - "The Fall." It was a film like no other that I have ever seen - the colors, the imagery, everything was just so unique. I think that in terms of the use of color and imagery, I can't think of another contemporary director with Tarsem's skill.

I LOVE "The Fall". Such a great film. I agree, very unique. But I haven't seen any of his other films. I'm going to look some up for sure though.

Im not a huge film enthusiast. But when I come across films like Ashes and Snow, or the The Fall, it just really tickles my fancy.

you have any good suggestions on films or art of this nature?

I am a sucker for fantasy and allegory in movies. I've never dug the straight genres like thrillers, horror, etc.

I know Bouncer hated it, but I really liked "Pan's Labyrinth." Get the undubbed Spanish version with subtitles if you haven't seen it.

We are talking about the craft of film making - gorgeous cinematography, fantasy, allegory. Where the film maker creates an alternate universe and draws the viewer into it. That kind of stuff...

Pans Labyrinth is a medical term for the canal connecting the colon to the sphincter. You'll love the film.

Great film, enjoy the scenes with deniro and pacino. They were never on set together because of their ego's - you'll never see a profile shot of both actors together.
