stay in school kids learn to spell cuz ya thats important in real life.
I would rather spell like i do and be comfy at home or where ever i want than to know how to spell or write proper, lol

I totaly agree with the 3rd stringer. if he makes NFL he will laugh at everyone in school. even as a bench player if he dont make NFL then well hes stupid, lol
Why will the 3rd stringer laugh at everyone in school? Will he still be laughing when that 2 million he made is gone due to horrible financial management/choices?

I grew out of the "money buys happiness" stage a few years ago.
I realized that health and my family bring more happiness then money. I am once again in school and spending a ridiculous amount of money each year, but I will be able to do the job that I enjoy each and every day.

        That is in the MINORITY.

only 22 out of 227 public schools in NCAA Division I generate enough money to pay for athletics. And the gap between those that can keep pace with the rising costs and those that can't is rising.

While rising scholarship costs have played a major role in athletics spending increases during that time, outlays for coaching compensation, support-staff pay and facilities have risen faster than those for scholarships.
Even with increases in revenue from media rights deals, ticket sales and corporate sponsorships, more than 90% of 227 athletics programs at Division I public schools depended on student fees, school or state support in 2010-11.

College sports' financial disparity keeps growing in NCAA's Division I

You can't deny the facts. Schools are drowning in debt just trying to keep a fucking football team going. It is a waste of money and resources.

You said "our athletic departments", are you a teacher? University of Florida?

It pays to be a winner.

If Podunk Polytechnic can't support their football program then they should focus on the boosters and alumni, renegotiate their broadcast rights or license more merchandise.

          What's that?

They don't have a TV contract? They don't sell enough merch for exclusive license? They don't have enough alumni donations to break even?

Well.....sorry you went to a shit school.

UF is a land grant university and receives an endowment under the Morrill and Hatch Acts established in the 1800's.

And any funds from students that goes to athletics is a very small portion of tuition set aside to maintain facilities that are open for use by students, such as gyms, fitness centers, pools, tennis courts, etc...

            From your link...

Operating revenue: $123.5 million (No. 4)

Operating expenses: $107.2 million (No. 4)

Increased revenue by more than $6 million in 2011 while increasing expenses by less than $1.5 million.... in 2011, athletics made an unrestricted gift back to the university of nearly $4.9 million. And in 2010, it made one of nearly $5.8 million.

It cost $$$ to be a winner. Coaches paid to much, players paid with an education they don't want.

27 out of 227 division 1 schools made money. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm sounds like a lot of shit schools exist.

Are you connected to the football program? Sure do have strong feelings to its existence.

The majority of those kids are there to enhance their chance at a NFL contract, then let the fucking NFL create farm teams and let school go back to being school. I think you few positives you list would be worth cutting the programs. The schools would make up the lost revenue by being able to invest more money in other academic programs.

                  I think so.

I will agree that for smaller schools that can never hope to compete in major bowls spending millions on athletics is a losing proposition.
