I do believe in God, but I'm not an avid church goer. Most of the churches today are more into their big, oversized, televized, churches and aren't really into what really matters.

Any obstacle in life just makes you that much stronger. The children with deformaties and bad parents are obstacles that they have to overcome, and I think that without God in their lives, that they would not overcome any of it. Maybe he does this because it's only making them stronger to overcome anything in their lives. Like if you've ever gone through a really tough situation in your life and thought you would never get through it, but you did. And you say " If I ever get through THIS then I can get through ANYTHING!" I think that God has a reason for everything. JMO

Since I don't believe in god, I don't think he's responsible for it at all. It's genetics....it's bad people doing lousey things to their kids. What I mean is that IF there is a loving god, then why would he allow such awful things to happen?

As for a child who's tourmented by a parent and it making them stronger...I don't buy it. It often makes those children even more aggressive and they often repeat it with their own children...if they survive. Many children do not survive and die from beatings and neglect.

If there is a god who was powerful enough to create this world we live in, why would he not be powerful enough to care for his creations and prevent wars, innocent killings, etc.?

I don't mean to argue at all here. I'm just saying the things that have crossed my mind which caused me to loose my faith.

I really wish I believed like I used to, but I simply can't...not now.

IMHO, I believe that man's struggle to comprehend things which do not have a rational explanation in terms of his physical and mental capabilities leads him to label or "fill in the gaps" of the things which he can not understand.

By creating a god or devil, he has rationalized and made whole in his mind something which he can not explain.

The comfort one enjoys by having a god or devil as opposed to trying to figure out why there are black holes or why people like
Hitler exist frees them from spending time of having to prove why and allows us to create and explore our world more fully."

I do believe that what you do in life and how you treat people is the most important aspect of our lives. I guess this would be a "Karma" type belief, I believe that how I treat people and how I conduct my daily life is very important, that this will come around to help or hurt me in the future. I do not need an organized religion to tell me this, and although it may sound somewhat contradictory here, I think there must be a "higher power" of sorts somewhere along the line.
            :agree:

Thats true, why would God allow bad things to happen but you must remember this is earth not heaven. Of course, I feel terrible when I see a child with a disease or abusive parents but their soul lives on after all of the suffering. If their is no God, how would we all be here? I know most will use the theory of evolution but it really doenst add up, once you look at all the facts and etc in that theory.

And I swear, the most religious people that I meet are the most backstabbing, hypocritical, two-faced, lying people I've ever met.

I don't know what happens to us when we die...if we even have a soul, does it go somewhere or is it reborn in another lifeform?

I've been agnostic for the past 7 or 8 years, but especially so after 9/11.

I just live my life trying to be the best person that I can be, to help the people that cross my path, and try not to cause any harm or grief to anyone else.
I COULD NOT HAVE SAID IT BETTER MYSELF. I THINK ITS SAD THAT SOME PEOPLE NEED A REASON TO BE A GOOD PERSON!!

How we're here I don't understand at all. But I really can not believe in the Adam and Eve thing either. Not so long ago we didn't know much about the universe yet as time goes by, we gain more knowledge and information, we're still discovering new stars and such to this day. I was once believed that the sun revolved around the earth...we've proven that's not true.

Maybe in my lieftime there will be a proven answer as to the origin of our existence, but I doubt it. I don't really mind not knowing either. I'm satisfied living a decent life and having it end someday.

Rude...if you don't want to post in public what made you regain your faith, I'd love to hear about it in a PM. Even if I don't agree with you, I wouldn't argue it with you...I think it's wonderful that you believe...it makes you happy.

No...he didn't say it's sad to BELIEVE in god. He said it's sad that "SOME PEOPLE NEED A REASON TO BE A GOOD PERSON!!' Big difference.
