  • Computer question(BLM)

So as most of you know; I can be the biggest idiot in regards to them. Ironically I use them all day for my business.

What I'm trying to do is condense these folder so that I'm NOT always clicking three folders to get into one; not sure how I did this. Look at the pic.

You'll notice how I have to click on family pictures then all pictures, then pictures twice before I can see all of my stuff. At one point I had it where it was just a click on the Family pictures and boom it was all there. One day I played around with deleting the "pictures" sub folders and deleted all of my shit, which is over 40 gigs of pics/videos. But I had my shit backed up:thumup:

I want to just click on Family pictures and it all be there. Suggestions? And for the life of human kind, please know wtf you're posting because I don't want to delete my memories.

    Thanks!

Can't you just copy all the pics put them in the main folder and delete the sub folders (after you are certain they have been copied into to main folder).

Or try moving your sub folders up a level by dragging and dropping the folder into the main folder.

I've done that before and it was taking hours to copy itself into the new folder created(40 gigs is a shit load bro) and have no patience for it. But I'm gonna do it tomorrow because I take pics/videos ED of the family and annoyed I have to click on four different folders to just get into one.

It's the only one I have an issue with. All of my other folders are good. Have no clue what or how I did that lol.

It's just drag and drop. Single click the folder you want to move and drag it (hover over) to a different folder. You should be able to Control click and select multiple folders at the same time.

Delete all picture files, clear out the recycle bin, restart computer, all pics should then be there just as you want it...

                LMAO @ Bouncer...

Rado, just drag/drop into the "My Pictures" folder. They'll get moved in an instant.

They don't actually get moved in the literal sense of the word, like sheets of paper from one folder to another. The folders are not real... there's something called a filesystem that keeps track of the virtual locations of the files. When you move the files from one folder to another, the files don't get rewritten to a different location on the drive. They stay where they are - the computer just updates the information on where they are located. Just think of it as a cheat sheet that the computer has on where your files are located - all it does is update the cheat sheet.

That being said, get a couple of backup drives, yo! :slap:

You can get a 1.5TB or greater drive for peanuts these days. No excuse to not get at least 2 external drives.

And set up a regular backup schedule.

All your files should be saved in at least 3 places. Never go single pont of failure.. Ever.

I have 2 backup drives, one local and one over the network. I have a freeware program called Synchronicity (google for Synchronicity backup) that I can set on a schedule to do the backups. I back up my files every night. Worst case scenario is 1 days worth of lost work... and if I am doing something critical, I might do a quick manual backup just in case in the middle of the day.

Damn, I just looked at your graphic attachment...

                      Your directory structure is:

Family Pictures > Family Pictures > All Pictures > Pictures > Pictures> ... and then sub-folders for your various topics?

WTF.. lmao... damn, no wonder you are tired of clicking on subfolder after subfolder...

That's what I did once before and when I deleted the other stuff, poof all my shit was gone.

Easy Way I see is to copy all of your sub folders to the desktop, then delete that family picture file. Start off with a new file and drop your sub folders in.

Seems that simple but it's not, just tried everything all of you mentioned. Just gonna get the TB out and download all of my shit there and delete some of my stuff on this laptop and go from there. Or I may just plug in my iPad to it and transfer it that way.

Funny thing was when I bought the iPad about a month ago, I hated the fucking thing I even told bouncer I would sell it to him for like $100. I didn't see what the fuzz was about, and sort of still don't but it's a cool thing to have rather than carrying a bulky case or a laptop period.
