  • Hard to believe...

I am the mother of a 16 year old today!

Today is also the first day of her first semester in college. I swear, I could not ask for a better child. I am so proud to be her mom.

(I almost posted a picture, but decided maybe it's not a good idea. Damn perverts. :disagree:)

She is in college already? At 16? Or is she taking college level credits? That's pretty good either way. Does she know what she wants to do? Congrats, FB! You must be justifiably proud!

She is taking college courses in addition to her AP classes in high school. She is considering nursing school as a start.

Nursing is a great career if she likes it. Serious nursing shortage in the country and the job is the ultimate in portability - pretty much pick where you want to live.

It's a shame they make it so darn hard to get into! I understand wanting the best of the best, but it is a very competitive field (in my area, at least).

Healthcare IT is the place to be.

Everyone has or will soon have total electronic medical records, as such there is a huge market for certified analysts, regulation specialists, security managers, etc...

You just hit the nail on the head....HUUUUUGE money to be made. As hospitals switch to all-electronic records, doctors' offices pretty much have to follow suit too. So they end up with encrypted routers, more computers in their offices, have to be hooked into the hospitals in their city, and need support to keep it all running smoothly. Saw it phased in here at my father's office...big money spent along with provincial government incentives to do so. I know the markup was VERY healthy for the company that won the contract to implement it here. Pretty sure the support doesn't come cheap either.
