Protection. I am not allowed to own a hand gun cause of my record so shotty or rifle would be the next be another good choice... Gun laws are cracking down here in cali and people are buying up AR's left and right so much that I cant even find anything online. gonna have to start going out and lookin.

Hate to admit it but im a bit of an apocalypse nut. Not crazy but i just want to be prepared if anything were to happen. So an AR and a shotgun would definitely come in handy in case any kind of traumatic natural even were to happen and cali went crazy.

Ps. Its really the idea of the next big earthquake to hit us. No doubt should be big. Just want to be prepared… minor Earthquakes dont frighten me too much but the idea of a huge 9+magnitude scares the shit out of me

        :panic::panic::rofl:

you are gonna have a hard time buying a rifle right now unless you wanna pay double or tripple the price. Shot gun you should still find anywhere. rem or mossberg are just fine and very well priced. I have Benelli M4 but thats a 2000+ gun not sure you want that. if so get it.

I hate to say it but you will not find a AR for 1000 bucks right now! even shitty uppers are going for 700 and up actually 700 would be cheap right now.
what you need to do is buy a lower and some mags NOW. uppers and ammo will always be aound but obumma wants to limit mag cap and evil looking black guns.

True. I have been watching the market for weeks, you aren't going to a fully functioning AR type rifle for 1k, unless it is a friend deal.

For shotgun I would go Mossberg 500 or Remington 870 if you want pump action, Benelli for sure if you want semiauto, but the Mossberg 870 SPX will give you the semiauto experience for around 700 bucks.

Wouldn't buy an AR now, you are going to pay twice as much and get bottom of the barrel.

Thanks for the input Rocket. like I said hopefully my chicks boss loosens up his grip on his ARs and is willing to fork one over but we'll see. Doubt it :fight:

Mossberg and Benelli all the way for shotty's!!!
As far as Long Guns go, Century Arms ( Century International Arms ) mfgr's a supposed 100% american built ak-47, no imported parts. My buddy just bought one and I've got to say, THE BITCH IS BAD ASS! Weighted nicely. Tighter tolerances than the china and russia made models, which means more accurate, not only on FTP (first trigger pull, cold barrel.) but also after going thru a couple 30 rounders. Unlike other AK's, the rear sight is adjustable for both windage and elevation. It also has 4 tac rails to mount your goodies on. There is also an upper rear tac rail mount you can buy for it for like $28. It comes with 2 30rnd mags, is 37-1/4"L and weighs in at 8.2lbs. ,with a smaller mag, its accurate enough to use for hunting, LOL:) Unfortunately, not available for sale in Cali as well as a couple other states. He bought it new and an add'l 12 30rds and a 100rd drum for a little over $900. Well worth the dough if you've got it to spend.

                      As far as handguns go...

Sig Arms, IMO, makes the best, hands down. That is what almost all the federal agencies are carrying now or in the process of switching to. And alot of law enforcement agencies is switching to, and getting away from the all but useful GLOCK.

Right behind Sig, it's a toss-up for me, between HK and Springfield.
Kel-Tec is another manufacturer, located here in FL, that is supposed to mfgr a really nice weapon. I've only heard good things about it from people I know that have and do use it. Other than that, I can't say much about it imparticular...

mossberg and Benelli are two intire different ends of the spectrum in shotguns.
and yes that AK can be had in Cali you just gotta know what hoops to jump threw. but I would go AR over a AK and yes that is debatable like anything

I know that they are at two ENTIRELY different ends of the spectrum. What I'm saying is no matter what it is that you are looking for whether it be pump-action or semi-auto, or whatever it is that you want to use it for, you can't go wrong with picking one of those mfgr's over the others. AGREED?

As far as the AR over AK debate. It's all about personal preference, I guess. I like both, they both have their good and bad points, but in the mean time I'll keep my BARRETT M82A1.

Good advice in here. I think a Remington 870 or Mossberg 500 is going to be a solid bet for you in terms of a shotgun. They are rugged, parts are readily available, as well as just about any manner of customization. Semi-autos are fun, I carry an M-4 but for the situation your describing, you want a gun that will take abuse. If you dial it in correctly you can hit out to 200 with it. In an urban setting that is adequate for distance, and you have the additional benefit of a home defense gun. Rifle wise any AK or AR variant is going to cost you a significant amount as the market value has skyrocketed. Unfortunately they are pretty much the standard for the scenario you are talking about. In terms of taking abuse, the AK is king, although just. ARs are generally going to be accurate to a greater distance. I have carried M4's in some very shitty environments without fail. It's a great idea to buy a decent stripped lower and build a gun around that if your into that-I have done that myself.
