I was at this event in Montreal...amazing atmosphere, as it always is in that building.

As for the GSP fight, I think people are forgetting that there were two factors that prevented him from getting overly aggressive:

      1. Fighting in 'boxing range' would have been stupid for GSP; it's the one area of standup Nick is very good at. GSP had to either work at kickboxing range or in tight to keep his advantage, which is what he did for 90% of the fight; he took some damage when he got sloppy in the third and did some pure boxing with Diaz.

      2. GSP couldn't get overly aggressive on the ground, because Nick Diaz has a very unique and lethal bottom game; he rolls for leglocks that most guys can't, and has some dangerous offense from the 'turtle' position (the main reason GSP didn't risk giving him space, preventing him from kneeing the hell out of Diaz the way he did Serra).

Very valid points. Anyone that isn't all that familiar with Diaz google some of his fights..you would have to be fucking nuts to want to box with the kid. Couple that with drinking the Gracie BJJ koolaid since before puberty and Diaz is no joke anyway you look at it on the ground.

It was a very good strategy I thought. Even Diaz said he was surprised GSP knew what he was going to do on the ground..thats a very telling point. Ugly to watch, but GSP's takedowns are the best in the world I think. He was faster on his shot, and stronger on top, both key elements to beat Diaz. I just wish Diaz wouldn't talk so much shit...or at least be more eloquent doing it lol.

Thought Ellenberger made a statement, great knockout. I honestly thought that Hendricks looked sloppy-although I understand he hurt his hand early...again it came to takedowns. Which, while I believe they should score points, I also think that what you do once you get them should be a factor in scoring. I understand the difficulty in takedowns and top control, and both should score points, but is seems like they are given much much more credence than they should be. Hopefully the judging will continue to evolve.

True statement regarding GSP, excluding the Condit fight; he beat the shit out of him.

Same here. I didn't watch it until last week. A buddy of mine kept telling me I need to watch it because it was such a great fight. It showed how tough GSP and Condit truly are. Download it.
