Looking to get a new mattress. I currently have a Serta pillow top. I have no issues with it but my wife's back hurts almost every morning. It's about 8 years old so guessing I'm due. Any recommendations? A friend of mine mentioned a sleep number but for a king size bed it looks like it will cost $4,000+.

In my experiance with mattresses, it doesnt matter if you buy the cheap shit from costco or the top of the line serta, they all suck after 4-5 years.

I bought the sleep number and it was the biggest piece of shit ever. You are better off going to a walmart and buy a $20 air mattress because that is all it is. Total waste of money. Now I have the temprupedic and I'm loving it.

I'm in the market right now, too. All of the spring mattresses go to shit after awhile. Even the ones that claim to last 25 years. Tempurpedic seems to be about the only way to go, in my opinion. I just went to check them out the other day. They have a great warranty, and supposedly excellent customer service from what I've heard from others.

However, they are expensive. I think the one we're looking at with the new cool breeze technology, was over $5k.

I have a queen size and because of my platform bed I didn't need to buy the box spring so mine cost $2k.

Maybe I need to try a Tempurpedic but I never liked the feel of memory foam before.

They just came out with the new Breeze model. You can immediately feel the difference when you lay on that thing.

They don't have a pillow in that technology!

They don't make it in the softest version of the Tempurpedic yet, so we're waiting for that. The thing is freaking expensive, though. :panic:

You don't have dips in it because it's an air mattress. :slap:

Funny thing though this just shows how different everyone is. When we had the sleep number neither me or my girl had a good night sleep. We adjusted that sucker in every possible way you can imagine it did not work. If I had it set up for a comfortable back sleep that sucker would ruin my sleep as soon as I turn on my side. Ih I had it set up for side, when I turn on my stomach it would feel like a hammock and fold my spine in a half. I had that thing for almost two years and hated it.

Now you gonna ask why did you buy it then?

Well...if you go to the store they lay you down on the one with the sensors and find your pressure points, then they adjust the air and you feel this great big relief because it literally feels awesome then they want you lay there for a few minutes to get the feel of it, but of course you are just laying on your back and not turning on your side or your stomach and you are don't get the feel how it really is until you bring it home.

So question is are you a back, stomach or side sleeper? and you do go in to test it make sure to try it the way you sleep.

                      That's my 2c. :D

When reading reviews seems like people either love the sleep number or hate it. Wonder if you can try it for 30 days with no financial commitment. I'll have to check into it.

like beast said, the sleep number bed is definitely for people who do not move a lot in their sleep. i tried sleeping on one for a few nights at a friends and it is definitely not worth the hassle.

I got my current mattress from a mattress store. it's a spring mattress but the coils are surrounded with foam. it's actually the most comfortable mattress i've slept on, second only to the tempurpedic.
