06:30 hrs I start slipping down into the swamp... about 1/2 mile in at 06:50 I do an owl hoot with my voice and I hear him,, GOBBBBBELLLLLLL...about 3 or 400 more yds and slightly west...I cross two creeks up to my waist in depth with soft muddy bottoms.
I close into about 75 yds from him and then realize there are two birds Yelling at me when a second one fires up!!! I see they are on a small oak hill in the middle of the big swamp. I set up against a big cypress tree and get ready for the Game...
a few min pass and they Gobble again..one is 75 yds and another at about 125. I give them a soft purr and two clucks...they go nuts!!..yes..they want a lady friend...
I shut up for 10 min..then did a soft cluck 3 times and beat my hat on my leg a few times to simulate a fly down..GOBBBBELLLL....
I give two clucks and shut up... About 07;10 hrs I hear a hen on the other side of the hill...DAMN BITCH.... So I got mad with her and started clucking loud then Cutt....she shut down...but the Gobblers sounded off...The hen shut down.....good....
About 07:22 I hear wings scrape and look up..here he comes gliding down from his roost over the reeds on the hill and lands about 75 yds from me..I see him start to walk to the left give a loud cutt and he turns my way in stride...GAME ON!!!!
He moves towards me closing the distance in the open swamp bottom fast...50 yds he goes behind a tree..I can finally shift my body left and get the Mossberg 835 into a shooting position..my mouth starts to get dry with the excitement of the hunt..heart rate is up....trying to controll the emotions..
45 yds..hes locked up and is looking...no shot...I purr real soft on the mouth call...he likes it and moves closer step by step... looking for his lady friend. He goes behind another tree...I shift left again and make myself one with the tree Im up against. he starts to come out at about 40 yds...small tress in the way.. no shot...I purrrr soft again..he looks and slightly changes direction closing the distance slowly cautiously looking for his girl friend that should be in view..... His head goes behind a sapling and I flip off the safety as I get down and take up a good tight cheek stock weld position....he comoes a bit closer as I track him with the bright green bead on his neck...then at about 32 yds a clear shot... I cutt loud and hard on the mouth call he sticks his neck out and GOBBBELLLLLL in response, I took the slack out of the trigger and at that instant the 835 barked as I felt the recoil of the 3 1/2 in magnum 2 oz load of copper plated #5 shot exit the barrel. I watch him take the full impact and flip him over onto his back.
Damn...its all over..the final hunt of the 2013 Turkey season just ended for me with a classic roost hunt at 07:23 hrs..

Thats the 7th bird Ive called in to the guns this year 5 have died..That makes my 3rd. so Im tagged out. Now I'll call and try to help out a few other folks and just tote the video and try to get some film...Hopefull of sabrina scoring with her x-bow...
