Um that is what a federal gun ban would do. It would remove guns from legal owners. Law enforcement and criminals would still have them.

Want to wave a magic wand and make guns dissappear, all projectile weapons, all bombs, etc? I can get down with that. But I don't think that is reality.

Crime has been falling in the U.S. for the last decade or so. In just about every category including violent crime such as murder. WITHOUT a gun ban. Just saying. And glad its down in the U.K.! Those slingshots really smart ;)

Crime has been falling in the U.S. for the last decade or so. In just about every category including violent crime such as murder.

There has been a study that indicates that the key reason for the steep drop in crime rate in the late 90s and early 2000s is the legalization of abortion. As uncomfortable as this may feel to some people, the evidence is fairly compelling that this has reduced the number of socially disadvantaged males who would be in the late teenage to early adult years precisely when the crime drop happened. Very interesting stuff - you can read about it in the great book Freakonomics, or explained in more detail here.
