  • Boxing..?

Not to relive the entire debate of boxing vs. MMA but I watched the Mayweather/Guerrero fight this last weekend--only because my buddy is a huge boxing fan and beer and ribs at his place were free. He paid 70 bucks to watch it.

32 millions dollars guaranteed???? That's how much money Mayweather earned...are you fucking kidding me? Guerrero earned a paltry 3 million to get his face punched off for 12 rounds lol. What a goddamn snooze fest. Mayweather did what he always does..fight defensively off his jab with hand speed-and ya he is that good..and I literally fell asleep in the seventh round. I get that he's good, I get that finding opponents is difficult..but watching that fight and realizing the enormous payout made me shake my head...When elite champions in MMA are making 250,000 a fight plus a win bonus. It was just interesting to me that despite it all boxing still has that kind of fan base to support such a huge payout..I quit watching it years ago.

MMA has a bigger fan basr they just dont need to pay the fighters that much yet. I have friends that got paid less to fight in UFC than our local shows. MMA needs another UFC to compete and drive the price up for these guys

MMA popularity has grown enormously but it still has a long way to go before it has the fan base that boxing has. Actually, according to 2012 end of year results mma numbers declined and boxing increased. Keep in mind how old the sport of boxing is. UFC has gone to great lengths to close that gap but it's still an uphill battle. Hence the reason for TUF, incorporating women fighters, airing on prime time, free prelims, etc.

UFC has never (nor has boxing) had 100 million ppv buys bro. Boxing averages over 1 million ppv buys while ufc averages 700-800k. UFC has had buys over 1 million but not consistently and have decreased over the last few years.

Yeah you're right Lesnar was one of the few over 1 mill. That was when the the buy rates were at their highest. They have slowly declined since then. That is why Dana kissed his ass. He was THE cash cow.
