Got the call everybody dreads getting

My mother is a breast cancer survivor - had surgery 12 years ago and has been fine since.

But she had been feeling a bit down, tired and nauseated a lot lately when I was visiting her in India. Well, the phone rang yesterday and apparently, they did a CT scan and her cancer has come back and spread to her kidneys.

CT scan shows stage 4 malignancy - doctor says it is beyond treatment. She is going to get some more opinions later this week, but things are not looking good.

She is 77 and I suppose the mortality of a parent is inevitable for every person to face, but damn, it does not make it any easier.

Thanks, Hitman! She has an appointment with the oncologist on Friday, so we will know if this is something that can be controlled and slowed down with drugs. The other doctors seemed hopeful that while not curable with things like chemo or radiation therapy, it could at least be held in check for a while. We'll see.
