Virginia (+6) at Maryland
Virginia has had big problems running the football since Wali Lundy got hurt. Their rushing stats in their last three games Nc St. 23/50, Troy State 42/173 and FSU 9/-5. This does not bode well for them coming into this game against Maryland, when they have no offensive balance. Their running game has basically been replaced by short swing passes into the flat to Pearman and heavy use of their tight end Heath Miller on short range passes. Maryland is much better balanced on offense, averaging 220 ypg through the air and 171 ypg on the ground. Maryland is beat up at running back and will miss two of their top three in the rotation with Perry out (ankle) and Maldonado out (season ending knee injury). However, Josh Allen has proven to be very capable of handling an extensive load. In Maryland's last game against Unc, qb McBrien played probably one of the best games he has ever played for Maryland. The coaching staff praised him for his exceptional decision making on where to go with the ball in that game. Also, Maryland's offensive line which was beat up at the beginning of the year has really started to jell and played probably their best game of the year although admittedly not against a great NC defense. Maryland also has by far the better pass defense in this matchup with their experienced secondary and have only allowed 185 ypg through the air compared to Virginia's undersized secondary which has allowed 232 ypg. I think Maryland will be able to get pressure on Schaub tonight, because they know he will be throwing a lot as I don't see them establishing any running game. This is a big revenge spot for Maryland, after last year's disappointing defeat to the Cavs that knocked them out of major bowl contention. The Fridge has had 11 days to prepare for this intense rivalry game and will be well prepared. I look for Maryland to get it done tonight as their defense and special teams dominate the Cavs
