more super storms these days than I can ever recall

There is enough empirical data to show that that the conditions that spawn major hurricanes - deep warm water, higher air temperatures over the warm water and higher levels of moisture in the air above the water, are all higher than they have been in recorded history. Add to that the climate models that predict more extreme weather with these conditions, and it is not surprising. While a one-to-one correlation between a storm and global warming is probably a bit farther out (i.e. stating unequivocally that a storm would not have occurred if not for global warming), there is I think enough data to indicate that the current conditions can cause the severity level to be higher than otherwise.
