Not really. The public will get riled up but it should have no effect on the reciprocal deals. Right now, European countries refuse to extradite anyone to the US that may face the death penalty, because the death penalty does not exist in Europe (at least Western Europe) while it does here. The US has to assure the European country that they will not seek the death penalty for the person to be extradited. So I would say that this kind of accommodation is already being made.

I would be astonished if the US govt goes after Knox. She will appeal to the Supreme Court and I can guarantee the govt will lose.
