Have you ever had fresh amber jack sushi?

The chef at my local spot gave me a few slices of the belly meat to try and it was amazing. It's very similar to yellow tail just not as soft or sweet but still incredibly delicious.

We have and can catch Amberjack here, but they always have worms. You can still eat them, but that's just a turn off for me. :eww: They're generally a more fishy fish, so that surprises me that it was offered in a sushi restaurant. I've never seen them on a menu, but my bf says they are more of a west coast fish.

It wasnt on the menu. He occasionally gets a couple fish out of the ordinary just to experiment with. Not a fan of amber jack generally because of it's fishy taste. So I was really surprised by how tasty the belly meat was.

Most AJ in the atlantic have worms in the tail sections. For some reason its very rare in the gulf. Aj arent bad eating fish. never heard of them in a sushi before.

So come to find out the coveted "yellowtail" sushi that is insanely delicious is in fact a type of amber jack from the Pacific. For some reason I always thought it was a type of tuna. Hence, the reason the sushi chef offered local Atlantic amber jack as a taste comparison.

Interesting. Definitely an easier catch (less deep) so should be a lot cheaper. Good thing it's good. :thumb:
