  • New powerful painkiller

Just what we need another ultra powerful and addictive prescription drug 5-10x stronger than any pain killer available.

"In a few weeks, a powerful new opioid painkiller called Zohydro is expected to hit the market. Zohydro's easily crushed capsules will contain up to 50 milligrams of pure hydrocodone; that's 10 times more hydrocodone than a regular Vicodin. One capsule will pack enough hydrocodone to kill a child. An adult lacking a tolerance to opioids could overdose from taking just two capsules."

Zohydro: The FDA-Approved Prescription for Addiction | Andrew Kolodny, M.D.

    Opioid

Thats all you had to say.

If anyone is delusional enough to still believe a private health system has your health as its priority, this should put pay.

Why oh why would anyone fund this other than because they knew they could get it pushed onto the public by FDA in combination with the reps of your healthcare plan.

It is just extended release hydrocodone with no APAP.

And it isn't 5-10 x more potent than other pain killers on the market. Hydrocodone is CIII, step up to CII for the more potent pain killers.

I do think the pain killer market is fine and that we don't need additions. They are scrambling to lower the doses of APAP patients are receiving because they just realized that 3600mg of APAP might not be good for the liver. Pain pills just treat symptoms, they are over prescribed and abused by the public, but I don't see that changing. Doctors want patients and patients want doctors that will write them what they want. It is a sick cycle and I don't see a solution. And this vote by the FDA shows that the FDA is not about what is best for you the citizen, but what is best for the drug companies.

That story that is linked is extremely sensationalized.

And you think a public health system has your health as a priority? Public/private, they all have problems. Is health care a right or a privilege? That is the first thing to ask yourself. Shouldn't the majority of the burden of health care fall on the individual? The mindset of a majority of patients is "Ah who cares if I eat bad, smoke, drink, and don't exercise. The doctor will give me some medicines to make me better. Ah man this medicine causes me to have bad dreams, now I need a medicine to help me sleep" and it continues like that.

Health care was much better and cheaper before insurance companies got involved, they were getting too much of the pie and the government came in and decided it wanted a huge slice of that pie, so Washington decided it could disguise a tax increase by calling it the Affordable Health Care Act (Obamacare) and the people rejoiced (well some people, mainly the people that were already getting free/discounted health care).
