I like my tint a little darker than legal, but not blacked out for the cops to look for something to bother me with. I'll have to find out what mine is, but we did get a ticket down in Ft Lauderdale (with a speeding ticket) where a cop was being a jackass. It was 20something, so nothing crazy.

30 will not be very dark. I believe that is the percentage that is used on factory tinted windows. It is good for cutting out the glare from the sun. And it looks better than clear windows.Originally posted by THE BOUNCER View PostGood info, thanks blm. So 30% on front and back sounds about perfect no? Don't want it very dark.

The only problem I have with that is that it looks kind of goofy. I doubt he would be able to to do 15 all around legally so if he wants a uniform to look with the tint he will have to do 30. But that all depends on his state laws and his preference of the darkness.Originally posted by FitnessBrat View Post
Darker in the back!

Yeah it definitely looks silly if you have legal in the front and dark in the back, but if you do a little illegal in the front and a little more illegal in the back, you can't really tell just by looking at it. But we have blazing sun year round, so we need it!Originally posted by blm View PostThe only problem I have with that is that it looks kind of goofy. It's not really a matter of being able to tell if it's illegal or not just by looking at it. It has more to do with the fact of finding a legitimate shop that will do illegal percentages and still give you the lifetime warranty on the tint. It sucks if your tint starts to peel off or bubble and the corner shop that you had do you're a legal tint is no longer in existence.Originally posted by FitnessBrat View PostYeah it definitely looks silly if you have legal in the front and dark in the back, but if you do a little illegal in the front and a little more illegal in the back, you can't really tell just by looking at it. I don't want anything illegal, that's retarded. Why take the risk of getting tickets or attracting attention from the cops.
I also think really dark says.. "Custom shop". That's not what I'm going for. I want it to look clean and natural as if it came like that.

I have had all variations of tint. Once had the entire front windshield done in 30% and it was amazing, the sun didn't bother me at all without sunglasses.
I currently have 30% and it is fine. I just didn't want to be hassled by the police (rocking 5% tint), so I finally got a legal percentage.

You should also check on the tint law, I just did a quick google search and it looks like you CAN NOT have the front windows tinted in your state. You should check and see what the current law states.
Never mind, here is the current law info:
Illinois
Car window tint laws in Illinois were enacted in 2009. Below you can find information on how dark and reflective the car window tint can be in state of Illinois, as well as other rules and regulations you need to know about.
How dark can your window tint be in Illinois?
Window tint darkness is measured by Visible Light Transmission percentage (VLT%). In Illinois this refers to the percent of visible light allowed in through both the film and the glass. You can find out exactly how much VLT is allowed on your auto window tint in Illinois, categorized by sedans and SUVs and vans.
TINT DARKNESS FOR SEDANS:
Windshield: Non-reflective tint is allowed on the top 6 inches of the windshield.
Front Side windows: Must allow more than 35% of light in.
Back Side windows: Must allow more than 35% of light in.
Rear Window: Must allow more than 35% of light in.

I got front 35% rear 20 (all my cars have the same combo) and it still looks great. Here in Cali no front tint allowed and there is no limit on how dark you can go in the back.
Hate super dark tint because of the fact that you can't see shit at night.
Like I said, 35% front and 20% rear and it's plenty dark even with my full glass panoramic roof shade open letting all the light in from the top.
