Driving on the autobahn was an uncomfortable experience for me at least.. you've got Porsches doing 150 and you've got trucks doing 50, next to each other. The speed difference made the driving unnerving. Maybe if the road was deserted, it would be different.

How does a vehicle driving 150 and a vehicle driving 50 drive "next" to each other? I thought you were a scientist or some shit. That just doesn't make sense. If you are driving at 80 or 90, trying to pass trucks lumbering along at 60 and you see someone in your rearview mirror closing in at almost twice your speed, and you've got to move over into the slower traffic to let them by, and this happens over and over, that's stressful.
It's the huge difference in speed that can happen between adjacent lanes that's the problem, at least for me. I know lots of people speak of the autobahn in hushed reverential tones, but it wasn't frankly that enjoyable for me.

I drove at 90 throughout Eastern Oregon, NE California and Norhtern Nevada last week. Hardly a soul there, roads were excellent, superb scenery. Who needs autobahns? All you need is a good radar detector, and I have one of the best. :)
