$35K is still not exactly "for the masses" but at least it it in the range of "regular" luxury car buyers, not just movie stars and CEOs. The 200 mile range is great though. I haven't looked at this carefully, but don't current electric vehicles "for the masses" like the Volt and Leaf have ranges of less than 50 miles? That's actually getting into territory where you could conceive of doing inter-city driving down freeway corridoors in an electric car.

I actually thought about getting one before I got my CLA45, well it crossed my mind. Not sure I'm ready to go that route, and I'd rather spend $70/$80K + on an AMG car.

I can't really see how getting an electric at this time can be anything other than a 2nd "around town" car, unless all your trips are less than 50 miles. The infrastructure for long distance driving doesn't exist afaik. Maybe in a few years.... but there's no question it's coming. The DOE is putting a lot of money into battery research - hope some of it pans out and we make a breakthrough there. That's what's holding things up. If we can get a battery that can do a few hundred miles between charges and we have a battery swap infrastructure that will give you a fresh battery in the same time that it takes to fill up a tank of gas, I think electrics will take off.

I guess for me I was merely talking out loud it's a nice idea great concept but at the end of the day I would still want to wait for them to fix any issues with the current cars are being made

It would be great as a daily driver and day trips out of town. Just don't run out of juice in the boonies! :D

You should go test drive one, crazy fucking car. I don't mind spending $70-$80K plus on car; I have. Just haven't been able to convince myself for an all electric car.

I wish we could go all electric for everything and stop using oil, gas, liquids, etc....for energy.

instant torque for sure. all the power is immediately there so thats a good thing.

sound and feel is the problem. there is no gear change sound because it's just one gear. the engine just sort of whistles. sound and feel are such a part of the driving experience that it completely changes everything as an experience and not for the better.

its that emotional connection that is lost. they need figure out a way to add those sensations and passion back into an all electric car.
