So we are driving to Seattle in my wife's Mazda yesterday afternoon. It is around 3pm and we are on I-5 about a couple of miles or so south of downtown Seattle when I hear a funny rumble and the car is handling weird. I see out of the side mirror that the right rear tire has a flat. The freeway is packed and we slowly make our way over from the left lane to the right shoulder and I pull out my flx-a-flat and air compressor to get it inflated until I can get to a tire place to have it fixed. This takes about 10 or 15 min and when I am done, I look up and the freeway is EMPTY. NOBODY there, not a single car. It is spooky. I'm thinking all kinds of disaster scenarios - chemical spill, truck overturned, releasing killer bees on the freeway, etc. lol...
So, we get back in the car and get off a couple of exits later wondering what the hell happened. We notice police on every overpass as we drive down the freeway. Turns out Obama came to Seattle yesterday and they presumably cleared the freeway from SEA-TAC to downtown. They probably closed the freeway right after we passed some point and the traffic just stopped flowing. Lucky I decided not to change to the spare tire, or else I would have been out on the shoulder another 15 minutes or so. We would have been, er, persons of interest for the Secret Service as they surely swept the freeway before the presidential limousine rolled through lol... I am sure my brown skin wouldn't have helped!
