Don't know too much about Tiptronic, but automatic transmission is a snoozefest, great for minivans and full size SUVs, I guess. I'm addicted to the manual gearbox, but wouldn't mind trying one of the paddle shifters though.

You know not what you speak my friend. Its not 1985 anymore bro. The automatic you know is not the automatic of today. Especially in higher end cars..

            LOL LOL.
Scrum I'd love to see you trying to row the gears as fast as today's automatics or better yet a DSG transmission.:laugh:
Here is a little info for you.

"The DSG takes only about 8 milliseconds to upshift.[3][4] In comparison, the sequential manual transmission (SMT) in the Ferrari F430 Scuderia takes 60 milliseconds to shift,[20] or 150 milliseconds in the Ferrari Enzo.[3] The quoted time for upshifts is the time the wheels are completely non-powered."

I guess I'll give these paddle shifters a closer look if I ever purchase a car in the price range that offer them. I guess I grew up with manuals and haven't got them out of my blood. Just like the control it gives me.

                Audi S tronic transmission

The S tronic never takes a rest. While you’re accelerating in second gear the control logic is already pre-selecting third gear. At the gearshift point, the twin clutch reacts in a flash and the transmission shifts seamlessly. A two-shaft construction makes this changeover possible and ensures an uninterrupted flow of power to the drive wheels.

                S tronic (6-speed)

The revolutionary S tronic gearbox combines the agility and responsiveness of a conventional 6-speed manual gearbox with the convenience and smooth, uninterrupted power of an automatic transmission. The technical basis of the S tronic gearbox is the double clutch. This consists of two lubricated plates with hydraulically-regulated contact pressure. One engages the odd-numbered gears, the other the even-numbered, enabling gear-shifts to be made in a fraction of a second, with no disruption to the power flow. Depending on how the mood takes you, you can either allow gear-changes to take place automatically or, for a sportier driving style, operate the S tronic system using the gear lever or steering wheel shift-paddles. The choice is yours.

                S tronic (7-speed)

The extra gear, along with a dry-clutch set-up, results in improved fuel economy and lower CO2 emissions. As with the 6-speed S tronic gearbox, this gear system can be operated in fully automatic mode, or using the gear lever or steering wheel gear-change controls for an even more engaging drive.
