Its actually not that contagious, there has to be an exchangr of body fluid
Anything coming in on an airplane to countries like our would be quickly quarantined.
Biggest risk for the USA would be if the virus spread in mexico, those guys just seem to pour through your borders

"They" say you have to exchange bodily fluids to contract the virus yet 100 health workers that take extreme precautions when working around infected patients in Africa have been infected. Half of them have died; according to the WHO. That's scary shit and doesn't give me confidence in what is being told to the general public.

Exactly. When you're in a hospital setting working with people as sick as these are, it is NOT that hard to get blood, mucous, some type of bodily fluid/secretion on you.
They send doctors over to help, they've contracted the disease and died, but yet we bring it back here? I can't even imagine what those nurses/medical personnel feel like having to care for them. :x

agree 100%. i guess the only point I want to make is that the facilities in america are probably much better equiped to deal with it as compared to fucken africa.Originally posted by blm View Post"They" say you have to exchange bodily fluids to contract the virus yet 100 health workers that take extreme precautions when working around infected patients in Africa have been infected. RNA viruses have ridiculously high mutation rates, there are several strands of Ebola. WHO officials have stated the viral infection rate is exceeding their ability to control it in Africa already (as of August 1)
Currently Ebola is not an airborne virus. Nor has it ever been on U.S. soil until now. However, Dr Margret Chan, who is the director general of the World Health Organization said this: "..it would be extremely unwise for national authorities and the international community to allow an Ebola virus to circulate widely and over a long period of time in human populations… Constant mutation and adaptation are the survival mechanisms of viruses and other microbes. We must not give this virus opportunities to deliver more surprises.”
That is my concern. We honestly have no control over viruses other than vaccination. And viruses WANT to survive, they want to mutate, to become harder to kill, RNA viruses in particular. So why the fuck would you possibly think you should bring a virus with no cure, capable of multiple mutations, with multiple strains already in existence, to a corner of the world where it has never been in hopes to treat it? Moronic. This thing makes the mutation jump to airborne and how long until you think we would figure it out. We start dropping medication and treatment into these two people to fight it, the virus will fight back. IF it did jump, how would you know? How long would it take. How many more people would be infected? And if it did develop into an airborne contaminant we would be well and truly fucked. Distance equals safety..at least for a longer period of time imo.
