This is an affliction borne not only by bouncer but others and appears contagious in this cabin fever sheep pack mentality forum. Very few dare to speak out which is why I am vital for balance.

I realize mental health can be a complicated subject and I know there is a whole lot i don't have a clue about. My only point was that if your little girl or boy can't sit still in the class room that's completely normal and medication in that case is a mistake.
I agree and having 2 son's, same household same upbringing, (10 and 7) to use as comparison it can be easy for me to see the difference of a kid just being a kid and one that needs help.

So in a general sense it's not about if a person has a mental health issue. Everyone knows we could all be classified with something, but the key is if it negatively affects quality of life.

For my son with adhd the extremes is where it causes an abnormal problem. Yes kids aren't meant to sit still all day, but they do need to learn how to do what is expected of them at a certain time (age appropriate expectations). So we can't just say let them run it off in every situation. That a lot of time leads to what you see with these kids that are out of control and don't seem to have any discipline.

I don't really want to give specific of his behavior because every kid is very different and so is the treatment. So not to lose focus of that I will say how we treat him and how it should be done if treatment is truly needed. We Have the two doctors, we have check lists, sticky reminders around the house and have him in the program at school to allow for special education adjustments. Limit his amount of electronics use and keep him enrolled in sports to go along with playing with his friends. He is in the gifted program and a straight A student. But without all the work we, the doctors and teachers put in that can slip really fast. Him learning how to live with adhd now is very important to him continuing to succeed through life. Without it he can easily see everything as to hard and feel he is a constant failure. So watching for depression is important to. Doesn't mean he needs medicated for it, but it should be discussed so he doesn't feel alone.

That's a lot there and a whole lot to type out on my phone. So hopefully it all came out correct. :)

understood. makes sense. it's not realistic to say go run around every single time he gets hyper. it's easy for me to sit here and speak on something I know nothing about so again I apologize didn't mean any offense.

i guess in a different world where he had to get up at 5am and work on the farm and do physical labor or something it probably wouldn't be an issue. just ashame that we have to make ourselves fit into this society that on so many levels is unnatural.

Probably true. Which is why it's about quality of life not just diagnosis. The same reason I didn't get myself evaluated until around 30. Always had a job where I was on my feet a lot. Got promoted, but it was a desk job and worked on a computer all day. I knew everything but made a lot of careless mistakes due to my mind wandering but my hands continuing to work. Or I would get side take easily and next thing you know the day is done and I had very little to show for it. So it my quality of life was diminishing greatly. After I got help I turned it from getting written up to being promoted to the team lead within a year and have continued to move up.

Kids are less active in general these days also. Less riding bikes to school, less being out of the house in general. Especially compared to when we were kids and left in the morning and didn't come back until the evening. I think that is s big contributor to the over use of the diagnosis and meds. I say over use specifically because it's probably correct, but could be managed a lot different.
