  • Want a tv? Buy a Plasma

Plasmas are about to become extinct. They have some of the best picture quality you can get especially for the money.

Panasonic has discontinued making plasmas so the only options are LG and Samsung.

    51" Option F5300 Samsung non-3d $549~

    60" Option F5300 Samsung non-3d $799+

60" Budget 3D/Smart tv LG PB6900 $899+ price varies widely

Best quality money no object Plasma is the F8500 series from Samsung. While it's not as good as some of the discontinued Panasonic's it's still one of the best tvs on the market.

Totally agree with everything above. I've argued that for years.

They are power hogs compared to led but black levels are still the best.

      Oled is tops but expensive

OLED price has come down pretty quick last year 55 inch LG was around $10,000 now you can get it for around $3000-$4000 give em' a couple years. That's why I'm still suggesting plasmas to everyone I know.

The plasmas have gotten more power efficient since the Pioneer Kuro in 2008 but they still do use more power than similar sized LEDs but picture quality is king.

I'm amazed at the price drop of them all to be honest.

I bought a 60 inch dlp in 2006 for 5k now Costco has 60 inchers for $950 etc..

Yeah I was caught off guard by how quick the Ultra HD TV's have dropped in price already.

My buddy just bought (4) Samsung 75" ultras with extended warranties and quad matrix wall mount for $18k. Just a couple months ago those same TV's were $7-8k each.

Damn that is cheap it's too bad that a lot of newer TVs like that Vizio are not 3D. I hope 3D doesn't go away. It's not something to watch everyday but once in a while it's nice and more immersive.

I have a panasonic plasma. I like that it is HEAVY!! My dog has a bad habit of biting at the screen if he sees a dog on tv and he especially hates that WEEEEEEEEEEEEE insurance commercial w/ the stupid pig! Hes only 14lbs but the tv wouldnt have a chance if it werent so heavy. Im really liking the idea of smart tv's though, less clutter!

Have to mount the tv higher on a wall or a taller cabinet lol.

Also the year makes a big difference hopefully its not a 2009-2010 Panasonic that was their worst year. I think there was a lawsuite the tvs picture quality and black levels degraded after only 500 hours of use.

Until 3d home tech gets to the point where I need no glasses and it looks as real as my hand in front of my face... I have no interest.

That's how I feel. Until then it's still a gimmick to me.
